As an update to my post from May 26th about the message I received from COPYTRACK regarding an image I used back in 2019 potentially violating copyright . . .
. . . we’re off the hook.
Our documentation was sufficient to demonstrate that we had used the image under the proper license at the time. This despite the fact that the image in question has now been removed from the image library it was part of.
So . . . a few things learned here.
- ALWAYS use properly licensed images.
- Make note of where you get your images from.
- Archive the original download with the original file name. Don’t just put it in your downloads folder.
- Also a good idea to save your receipts/invoices from your image purchase.
I was able to provide my receipt from the stock image library (still using it 7 years on). I also had the original image which had the image ID number assigned to it from the stock image library. I could then take a screenshot of my downloads from 2019 showing the image ID number, and also showing that the image had been removed from the stock image library.
Sometimes, being a digital hoarder pays off, I guess. COPYTRACK closed the case right away. Having been through a copyright issue in years past, I was glad to avoid further issues.
I know most of this is probably common sense to many of you, but I hope it helps remind people that there are consequences for using images without proper licensing. Anyway, all turned out well.
Thanks for reading! I hope this was helpful. Time to get back to your regularly-scheduled work day 🙂
